The product

T-Mobile Tuesdays was my first UI project in 2016, making it a meaningful starting point in my design career.

The app launched as the company’s 11th Un-carrier move, rewarding existing customers for their loyalty and giving new customers a reason to join through weekly gifts and prizes.

The Marketing Store brought me onto the initial design team alongside a creative director, copywriter, and another UI designer. Our brief was to create a “lasers and explosions” feel while keeping the experience easy to use. I contributed to concept development, UI and game design, and concept presentations.

I pitched my concept to T-Mobile executives, who selected it as the overall design direction for the app.

Working on an Agile team, I collaborated with the business team recruiting sponsors, UX and strategy partners, and developers to bring the designs into the product.

How it works

One of the highlights of this project was designing the game mechanics and graphics, and selecting sounds to bring the experience to life.

The steps to the app are simple:

  1. Learn what the app is about (if it’s your first time).
  2. See all the Grand Prizes you will be playing for, along with the free stuff you automatically get.
  3. Play a game for the grand prize.
  4. Redeem free gifts and prizes (if won).

Results

According to T-Mobile’s September 2016 reporting, the app reached No. 1 on Apple’s App Store immediately after launch, ahead of Snapchat, Instagram, and Google Maps, and No. 3 on Google Play. T-Mobile also reported that it regularly reached the top 10 in both stores’ lifestyle charts, ranking ahead of Tinder.

By September 2016, the program had thanked more than 4 million customers with over 14 million gifts. These were results for the broader product and launch, which I contributed to as part of the initial design team.

Where it went next

In January 2024, the T-Mobile Tuesdays app became T Life, expanding beyond weekly rewards into a broader hub for T-Mobile benefits and connected services. The T-Mobile Tuesdays program continued within the new app.
